Business Maths (PBL)-Hub 3
Business basics (24 tutored hours)
Service Description
From barter to commerce, the value of money and the basic economics of buying and selling are explored during the study of business mathematics. Percentages are introduced. From that foundation, discount prices are calculated along with the commission earned from selling an item, the sales tax charged for a good, and the interest rate assessed on a loan granted for a car or home. In learning how money came into existence, the students explore how the value and worth of an item or service translates to the value of a person as well as a community. These value/worth/compensation points are important connections for the students to make during this time of transition to the threshold of adolescence and the shifting of attention to peer approval and the impact that can have on self-acceptance, etc. Practical element: What better way to learn business maths than to set up your own business! Students will be learning just what it takes to create their own business by setting up a “shop”. The “shop” will be an area in the centre where students and parents can purchase goods. Market research, sourcing goods, deciding on price and naming their venture will all provide an exciting real element to business maths.
